Engineering Sample Assessment Guide: Preparing an Effective Product Validation
From sample selection and de-sensitization to demo prep: the complete workflow and materials list for a 45–60 minute product validation.
Sample selection criteria
- Select a real project batch instead of an idealized single sheet. The batch should include 20–100 sheets covering your common formats.
- Include at least one "hard sample": mixed formats, special fonts, complex lineweight mapping, or a non-standard scale.
- For nesting or IFC products, samples must use your actual sheet specifications or IFC versions.
Desensitization and Documentation
- Remove customer names, project codes, proprietary dimensions, and process parameters; retain sheet structure, line types, and annotation complexity.
- Record the current manual workflow: number of steps, per-sheet operation time, and total batch time as the comparison baseline.
- List known pain points and error-prone steps so the demo can address them directly.
- Define success criteria, such as "50% reduction in manual batch operation time" or "84% increase in media utilization."
Demo session preparation
- Suggested attendees: plotting engineers, CAD administrator, IT operations, and procurement or the project owner.
- Sessions run 45–60 minutes via screen sharing using your own samples.
- Session output: sample run results, baseline comparison data, deployment and licensing guidance, and a follow-up validation plan.
