Engineering Sample Evaluation Guide: How to Prepare for Effective Product Validation
Complete workflow and materials checklist for a 45–60 minute product validation, from sample selection and data masking to demo meeting preparation.
Sample Selection Criteria
- Select a real project batch, not an idealized single drawing. The batch should contain 20–100 drawings and cover common enterprise paper sizes.
- Must include at least one "difficult sample": mixed map scales, special fonts, complex line width mapping, or non-standard proportions.
- For layout or IFC products, samples must include the actual board sizes or IFC versions used by your enterprise.
Masking and Documentation
- Remove customer name, project code, proprietary dimensions, and process parameters; retain sheet size structure, line types, and annotation complexity.
- Record the step count, time per operation, and total batch duration for the current manual workflow as a baseline.
- List known pain points and error-prone areas to enable targeted validation during the demo.
- Define success criteria: e.g., "Batch active operation time reduced by 50%" or "Media utilization reaches 84%".
Demo Meeting Prep
- Attendees should include: drafting engineers, CAD administrators, IT operations and procurement staff, or project managers.
- The enterprise demo runs via screen sharing for 45–60 minutes.
- Meeting output: sample run results, baseline comparison data, deployment and licensing recommendations, and follow-up validation plan.
